$1 SNG #3

Sitting down for my third and last double or nothing sng of the day. Hopefully I can end the day with a perfect three and oh record. Don't recognize any of the players at the table.

Ace queen on the button. Raised and missed the flop big time and folded at first bet.

Down to nine. For some reason this dumb ass went all in with a jack ten off suit and was called. Guess he just wanted to give his chips away.

Limped in with ace king off suit and missed flop. Folded at first bet.

Down to 8. Pocket jacks versus pocket sevens. Need to catch some cards if I want a chance at finishing in the top five. This game is just like the last one. Can't imagine the Poker Gods shining on me twice in a row, but no giving up. The name of this game is patience.

Pocket jacks. Went all in since I'm desperate. Got a caller. He has King Ten off suit. Four clubs came up. I had none. He had one. Out in seventh place.

Finished the day 2-1 which adds .55 cents to my payroll.

SNG #2

Seated at the table and waiting for the cards to be dealt. Sitting at this table is one of the guys from my last SNG who finished in the top 5 with me.

Ace seven suited in the small blind and I complete the bet. Only one spade on the flop so I fold to the first bet.

Dealt pocket jacks in the big blind. Big stack raised 4 times big blind and I fold assuming he has pocket aces.

Dealt pocket queens from small blind. Raised two times the blind and I call. Two aces on the flop. Raiser bets 4 times the blind and I fold.

A player went all in with ace king suited and was called. Ace king won (first time I've seen AK win in five all ins) and we are down to nine players. Four to go until the money but I have yet to win a hand. Can't get into the money without winning a few hands.

Player limped in with pocket aces from late position and lost to big blind. You can't limp in with pocket aces from late position. Down to 8 players.

Pocket sevens in small blind and complete bet. Got nothing on the flop and fold to first bet. Have the smallest stack but the blinds are still low. Still have time but need to cards to be competitive when blinds get large.

Blinds are high and I still haven't gotten any cards to play. I am the low stack and will have to go all in soon and hope the Poker Gods will smile on me. Sometimes this is how the game goes. You can't win without having any cards to play. Thankfully it doesn't happen often. But I'm not given up. As long as I have a chip, there is hope.

Ace four suited. Best cards I've seen so am going all in. Desperate times call for desperate measures. No one calls and I win my first hand. Still in trouble.

All in with pocket fives and got no call. Barely hanging in. Still have to out last three and doubt that will happen. I have never seen one of these sng's go so deep with this many people.

Pocket aces at the right time. All in baby. No callers. Things are looking better, but am not out of the woods yet. Want to see some people getting knocked out.

Down to seven. The guy with me during last sng just got knocked out. Two to go.

Another just got knocked out. If I can just survive one more it will be a miracle. This will be one of my best wins yet because of the lack of good cards.

Oh my. I managed to come in the top five and double my $1 entry fee. I was sure there was no way I'd make the top five in this one. The Poker Gods were surely smiling on me in this one. This sng gives a great lesson. Be patient, pick your battles, watch the other player's betting habits, and make plays when you have position over others. I am now 20-8.

SNG #1

Seated at the table and waiting to begin the $1 double or nothing sng. First hand dealt, a jack two off suit. Fold and wait for something decent to play. I don't recognize any of the other players so will have to watch their playing style closly.

Dealt A ten suited. Limped in. An ace showed up on the river, but the other cards very scary. A bet six times the blind comes to me and I fold. My guess is I'm facing a straight, two pair, or an ace with a bigger kicker. Too much can beat me here. The better doesn't show his hand.

AK suited early position. I hate AK. I hardly ever get the needed flop, which is why I always limp in. And that is the case here. I miss the flop badly, but win the pot since everyone else missed the flop as well. I can count on one hand how many times that happens.

AQ suited in the big blind. Everyone just calls. I check. Flop is all spades. I check hoping for a bettor. No one does, so I throw out a minimum bet on the turn and get one caller. On the river I throw out a bet 3 times the big blind hoping he calls. He does and I win a nice pot.

One player just got elimanted. He went all in with AK suited (see why I don't do that) and was called by someone with pocket jacks. No ace or king showed up and he was sent packing. Only have to out last 4 more. At the moment I have the 2nd largest chip stack.

Ace ten offsuit from late postion. I limped in with three callers. Snagged an ace on the turn. Bet and got two callers. Checked the river when the card put a flush on the board. Everyone checked and I won the pot. Still in second chip position.

Another all in play with ace king and another loss. Only have to outlive three more people. Blinds are now very high and the low stacks will start to get desperate. Must stay patient and not do anyting stupid. I am getting low as well and will have to make a move when I get some good cards and feel I can make a play.

Just lost our third player. Trip sixes versus trip aces. Two more to go to get in the money. Need to win one, maybe two hands to get into the money. Will be going all in when I get dealt my next ace.

Got my ace. Have gone all in. No callers. Still alive tho barely. Still need to outlast two players.

Another ace king all in and another loss. Ace king all in has lost everytime this game. Just have to outlive one more player. And it will be close.

Last hand was ace queen off suit against king ten off suit. Three kings on the flop knocked out the last player. I finished in the top five and doubled my money. I am now 19 and 8. This was very close at the end.

First Blog

I love playing poker. I just don't have a lot of money to play. Like many people in my situation who love the game, I was playing online with fake chips. That got old in a hurry. People playing with fake chips don't take the game seriously. Just about everyone goes all in on every hand with any two cards making the game nothing more the a game of luck.

So I saved up some funds and opened a real money account on Poker Stars. I would give you my Poker Stars screen name, but I plan on blogging about my poker style and don't want to give any of my future opponents an advantage over me. I started with $100 and after a few months am now at $122.58.

I was playing all the micro limit ring tables. As you can see, building a bankroll that way is a long and tedious process. I have recently changed tactics after finding the double or nothing sngs. IN the d&n sngs, half the field of ten players double their buy in. It is a great way to build your bankroll and I recommend them to anyone just starting out. If you can't consistently come in the top 5 in one of these sngs, you shouldn't be playing poker.

With such a small bank roll, I have been playing the $1. +.15 d&n sngs. I need to win 2 out of 3 on a consistent basis to increase my bankroll. Since starting, I am 18 and 8. In the future, I will be blogging the hands I play during each game as well as some of the decisive hands. In doing so, I hope to improve my game and maybe yours as well.

Comments are always welcome.
